About Inzozi Learning Center

Gashora, a community situated south of Kigali, Rwanda's capital, and near the Burundi border, is home to a river and eight small lakes. One of these lakes, Lake Rweru, is shared between Rwanda and Burundi. The region was heavily affected by the war and genocide of 1994, during which an estimated 40,000 lives were lost. The devastating consequences left numerous widows and orphans from all ethnic groups in the area.

Today, 98% of Gashora families rely on agriculture for their livelihood, while 70% also engage in livestock farming, primarily raising local breeds of goats, chickens, and pigs. The high population density puts a strain on the limited available farmland. It is estimated that 65% of its residents are living below the poverty line.

While understanding the importance of literacy for economic development, our team is dedicated to empowering the Gashora community through the establishment of a learning center. Higher literacy levels not only enhance the economy but also open doors to more educational and employment opportunities. This enables individuals to rise out of poverty and escape chronic underemployment. In our rapidly evolving technological world, it is essential for people to continuously expand their knowledge and learn new skills to keep up with the pace of change.

Our mission is to create a supportive environment that provides free education, resources, and opportunities for individuals of all ages. We aim to offer a range of programs, including reading hours, homework assistance, science Saturdays, and adult literacy classes. By investing in the education and empowerment of the Gashora community, we strive to create lasting change and contribute to a brighter future for all residents.

Join us in our commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of rural Rwandans and, together, let's build a strong foundation for generations to come.
